Sub: Two Day Mega India Leather Show, Madrid, Spain - March 22 & 23, 2011

Dear Member,
As you are aware, Spain is the 9th largest importer of leather & leather products in the world. Spain’s import of leather and leather products increased from US$ 2566.39 million in 2004 to US$ 4369.89 million in 2008, growing at a CAGR of 14.23%. Further, Spain accounts for a share of 3.17% in the global leather & leather products import trade of US$ 137.13 billion. Hence, the Spain is a potential market for enhancing India’s exports of footwear, leather goods & accessories and leather garments.
On the other hand, Spain is the 6th largest importer of leather products from India, holding a share of 6.43% in India’s total leather products export. India’s export of leather products to Spain has increased from US$ 176.70 million in 2004-05 to US$ 218.64 million in 2009-10, growing at a CAGR of 4.35%.
Hence, considering the import potential of Spain, the Council has been organizing Focus –Spain Market Promotion Programmes since 2002, the highlights of which are given below.
• A total of 107 Member Companies were the beneficiaries of the programme, 90% of whom were from SME Sector.
• Total Business Generated was US$ 8.33 million
• India’s export of leather products to Spain has increased from US$ 176.70 million in 2004-05 to US$ 218.64 million in 2009-10, growing at a CAGR of 4.35%.
• The programmes have created more awareness about the Indian Leather Sector, in terms of technological developments and other advancements taking place.
• Indian Participants stated that the Spain Market is “Very Promising” not only for exports but also to establish business collaborations with Spanish companies for Joint ventures / Marketing Tie-ups etc
India Leather Show, Spain – March 24 & 25, 2010 – a Huge Success
The Council organized a Two-Day Mega India Leather Show in Madrid, Spain during March 24 and 25, 2010 in association with the Indian Embassy in Spain. This indeed was the first Event of the Council with such a large participation of 61 Indian Manufacturers / Exporters. The show attracted 268 buyers including representatives of Spanish brands and Departmental/ Chain Stores, resulting in generation of future business to the extent of Rs.100 crore. The huge success of the show was possible due to the large scale participation of members and aggressive marketing efforts undertaken.
Mega India Leather Show in Spain during March 22 & 23, 2011
On the basis of the favourable market situation in Spain, the Council is proposing to organize a MEGA INDIA LEATHER SHOW for leather products covering Finished Leather, Footwear, Leather Garments, Leather Goods/Accessories, Leather Gloves, Saddlery & Harness during March 22 & 23, 2011, with the participation of about 60 member companies.
As in the previous show, professional Marketing & PR Agency will be engaged by the Council to carry out a Direct Marketing/Publicity Campaign and to coordinate the entire Event in Spain.
Since the Two-Day Mega India Leather Show in Spain is funded under MAI assistance of Govt of India, taking into consideration the actual expenditure and level of MAI assistance, the participation fee for interested individual companies has been fixed at Rs.60,000/-
In this background, I request all Member Exporters to consider participating in this important Event in Spain for exploring the possibilities of enhancing India’s export of leather products to Spain and other European countries in the coming years.
Interested Members may confirm their participation by sending the filled-in Application Form along with 4-5 product photographs along with the Participation Fee of Rs.60,000/- through a Cheque/DD drawn in favour of COUNCIL FOR LEATHER EXPORTS on or before September 10,2010 to enable us proceed with our preparatory arrangements.
