INCLUSION OF “STATE OF ORIGIN CODE” IN THE SHIPPING BILL OF THE EXPORT GOODS
- JULY 18, 2002

Dear Members,

Attention of the members is invited to the Council’s Circular No.CLE/ASIDE/2002-03 dated May 16, 2002 issued on the captioned subject which was also hosted in the Council’s website under the “News Room”.

In this said Circular the Council has informed that the format of the Shipping Bill for the export goods has been amended by the Government of India since May 2001 to include “State of Origin” of goods exported. Accordingly, the Cargo Handling Agents have to fill-up the correct “State of Origin and also mention the “State Code” in the shipping bills.

This system was introduced by the Government of India in order to obtain the export figures of each State / Union Territory so that necessary funds could be allocated to the States / UT on the basis of previous year’s export figures of each State / UT to implement the new scheme called “Assistance to States for Infrastructure Development for Exports and allied Activities” (ASIDE).

The Department of Commerce in the Ministry of Commerce & Industry has again requested the Council to advise all member exporters specifically to fill up the “State of Origin” and “State Code” in the shipping bills of export goods.

We therefore, request you to please comply with this requirement, while exporting your products. Please instruct your cargo handling / clearing agents to furnish the required details in the shipping bills. The list of showing “State Codes” brought out by DGFT is enclosed for your ready reference. Please do the needful.

Thanking you,
Yours faithfully,

K. Abdul Sattar Khan
