Dear Members,
Sub: Review of circulars, instructions and clarifications of issues relating to service tax
As members are aware, service tax was introduced through Finance Act of 1994 and since the several Circulars / Notifications /Clarification issued by the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, from time to time making applicable the levy of service tax on various services availed / utilized by exporters
In this regard, the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance has now decided to undertake an extensive review of all such circulars / clarifications etc on matter concerning levy of Service Tax. For this purpose, Shri T R Rustagi, Chief Commissioner of Customs (Retd) who was also Joint Secretary in the Tax Research Unit of Department of Revenue, has been requested by the Government to undertake the review and to make recommendation in this behalf to the Government.
A copy of the Notice F No.354/70/2006-TRU dated June 13, 2006 issued by Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance in this regard is forwarded herewith for information and necessary reference.
Member-exporters may please avail the opportunity and send their comments and views & suggestions on matter relating to Service Tax to the following persons, preferably by e-mail before July 3, 2006.
