Dear Sir(s),
Sub: The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act 2006
We would like to inform that the Government of India enacted a new Act namely "The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act 2006" for facilitating the production and development and enhancing the competitiveness of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. The said Act has come into force from 2nd October 2006.
In exercise of powers conferred by the said Act, the Ministry of Small Scale Industries, Government of India issued Notification S.O.1642(E) dated 30th Sept 2006, notifying the
investment limits in plant & machinery in respect of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises engaged in manufacture or production of goods and also those engaged in providing or rendering services.
The said Notification is appended at Annexure I.
By virtue of this Notification the investment limit for SSI units has been enhanced from Rs.1 Crore to Rs.5 Crore. Also the investment limit for medium scale unit has been notified as above Rs.5 Crore and upto Rs.10 Crore
The Ministry of SSI also issued Notification S.No.1636 (E) dated 29th September 2006, specifying that the General Manager, District Industries Centre or any District level officer of the State Government or Union Territory shall be the authority, with which medium enterprises shall file the Entrepreneur’s Memorandum.
The relevant Notification is appended at Annexure II.
Further, the Ministry of SSI has also issued Notification S O S No.1643(E) dated 30th Sept 2006 giving the format of entrepreneurs Memorandum of setting up Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises as well as the procedures of filing and other matters.
