: Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) between India and Chile
–
Import Tariff Concessions of Chile
Dear
Member,
We
wish to invite your kind attention to our circular of Sept. 14, 2007
wherein the details of tariff concessions offered under Indo-
Chilean Preferential Trade Agreement, on import of leathers falling
under Chapter 4104 from Chile in to India were given. It was also
mentioned in the said circular that, as hides and skins are already
allowed for import without any duty from any country, the
inclusion of hides and skins under Tariff Heading 4104 for
tariff concession for import from Chile into India will not have any
effect .
We
have now received a communication from the Department of Commerce,
Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India informing
that under the said PTA, Chile has offered import tariff concessions
to India on a total of 296 tariff lines at 8 digit HS level. The
details of the items pertaining to the leather sector for which
import tariff concessions are offered are given below, along with
details of margin of preference.

:
It
may be noted that the Margin of Preference (MOP) mentioned above is
the absolute difference between regular MFN rates and the Preference
Rates. Hence, the Margin of Preference is not the actual import
duty. For instance, if the MFN Rates are 50% and MOP is 20%, then
the Preferential Rate is 30%.
