Sub : Prohibition on import of live pig and pig products
Dear
Member,
We
wish to invite your kind attention to our earlier circular dated
Oct. 8, 2007 (copy given below) giving update on the prohibition
imposed by the Government of India on import of live pig and pig
products (including pig bristles) into India on account of Avian
Influenza.
We had also mentioned in the said circular that Government
measure banning import of live pig and pig products (including pig
bristles also made pig leathers and pig lining materials liable
for similar ban on import into India.
The
Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has now issued a
Notification No. 50 (RE-2007)/2004-2009 dated 14.11.2007 (copy
enclosed) exempting processed pig bristles from the ban on import
into India. However, there is no specific mention about exempting
pig leathers and pig lining materials from the ban. Hence, the
Council will once again take-up the issue with DGFT for issue of
necessary Notification so as to allow import of pig leathers and
pig lining materials in to India without any impediments. This is
for your kind information.
With
regards
